Dear Historical Fencing Family,
It is with great honour and joy that I extend to you an invitation to participate in the first European
Championship in Historical Fencing which will take place in Kalundborg.
The city has a rich history from the time of the crusades and forward. You must walk only 100
meters from the venue, and you will be in the old city with the unique 5-towered Church of Our
Lady, built in 1170, and the venue was built on the remnants of the old castle of Kalundborg. This
city is indeed an appropriate setting for a Championship in Historical Fencing.
This championship is under the auspice of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC). This means
that it is not an official European Championship as other European Championships under the EFC.
In time we aim to be provided the official sign of recognition by the EFC. The EFC has the
administrative infrastructure to reach the smallest nations in the HEMA community and have the
experience of executing competitions with high transparency and fairness on the playing field. We
are very grateful for the EFCs trust in our work and appreciate their commitment for this
Championship and for the future of Historical Fencing.
The former President of EFC Giorgio Scarso, together with the EFC working group for Historical
Fencing is the reason we today can invite you to the first European Championship in Historical
Fencing. Thanks for the vision and for the great work.
Also great thanks to the Italian Fencing Federation, who has made a crucial contribution to the birth
of this Championship and is a valued partner in the execution of the event.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the HEMA society throughout Europe to unite in a common love
for the sport of Historical Fencing. The goal is that this event will strengthen the bond in Europe and
be a chariot for the prosperity for the sport under the guidance of the EFC. We aim for that in the
future HEMA European Championship will be as integrated in the EFC as the Olympic fencing, and
that it will be a guiding touchstone for Historical Fencing societies all over the world.
With your participation you will contribute to building the future of HEMA in Europe and indeed the
World.
We are joyous that you will take an active part in making this event a celebration of Historical
Fencing and for helping these European Championships to develop into a continuous success for
many years to come.
Sincerely,
Jan Sylvest Jensen
President
Danish Fencing Federation
